Who We Are:
The GUIDON Foundation is an independent guidance organization for U.S. military veterans and their families. We are not the VA, a law firm, or a claims agency. We exist for one reason: no veteran should have to navigate life after service alone. Everything we publish is free, and every answer links directly to the official government source — VA.gov, the National Archives, or the Department of Defense.
The Founder:
GUIDON was founded by Tim Lawson, a veteran who spent years fighting his own way through the VA system — the claims, the denials, the letters. He built GUIDON so the next veteran wouldn't have to learn it all the hard way. Read the full story in the Founder's Statement.
Legal Status:
The GUIDON Foundation is an independent, founder-funded initiative organized to serve veterans and their families. The organization is currently forming as a limited liability company and is evaluating nonprofit 501(c)(3) status with legal counsel. Whatever the structure, the commitment doesn't change: everything we publish is free, and every answer links to the official government source.
How We Verify:
Every answer in our Knowledge Base is written from primary government sources and links straight to them — never to blogs, forums, or secondhand summaries. Answers carry a "Verified" date showing when they were last checked against the source. VA policy changes; when it does, we update. If you ever spot something outdated or wrong, tell us — corrections go to the front of the line.
What We Are Not:
GUIDON provides information, not legal advice. We never charge fees, never promise outcomes, and never ask for your VA login or medical records. For hands-on help with a claim, we always recommend an accredited Veterans Service Organization — their help is free, and no one is allowed to charge you for filing a VA claim.
